The Open Weekly: Olivia Dutton Takes Bronze and Natalie Dean Gets the Aachen Call Up

Eventing Dutton Climbs to Bronze at Millstreet

Olivia Dutton & Jewelent finished third at the FEI U25 World Eventing Championship at Millstreet, Ireland on Sunday afternoon after two tough jumping phases. Germany’s Calvin Böckmann & Altair de la Cense led the dressage on 27.6 and won while Cerys Macaulay (GBR) & Kananaskis took silver on 45.3.

The medal was secured in the last phase. Dutton sat 26th of 40 after dressage on 35.8, then added 12.0 cross country time penalties, on a day that averaged 15.5 penalties across the clear rounds, to sit 12th. Show jumping knocked the people above her, after Dutton jumped clear with 0.4 of a time penalty and moved up nine places.

Jewelent is fourteen and has been at this level before with a different rider. Produced in Ireland by Clare Abbott, the grey was Phillip Dutton’s ride through 2024 and 2025. Phillip & Jewelent's 3rd place at Fairburn in March 2025 helped secure his runner-up finish in the 2025 US Equestrian Open of Eventing. Olivia took the ride in September 2025. Her last three results with the horse read seventh, sixth, third.

While the team weekend did not come together, with two of the four US team riders eliminated on the cross country, The United States still had three riders in the top six. Molly Duda & Disco Traveler took fifth ahead of Jack Curtis & Luska Candy Clover on the same score by virtue of a better cross country result. Meg Pellegrini & Dondante finished 13th with two down on the final day.

The series resumes at The Fork at Tryon on September 10, 2026 after a seven-week break. Five qualifiers remain. The Final at Morven is ten weeks away.

Jumping Dean Called Up for Aachen

Natalie Dean & Mr Boombastic have been added to the Icon Global U.S. Jumping Team for the FEI World Championships in Aachen, August 16 to 23, 2026. They replace Marilyn Little & La Contessa, withdrawn by Little after the mare picked up a minor injury.

Little said the setback had cost the pair their preparation window and that she pulled the mare to give her the rest she needs. She wished the team well for next month.

Dean’s route to the squad ran through the Rolex US Equestrian Open Jumping Final. She finished ninth there at Wellington on March 28, 2026 with five penalties over the 1.60m track. A top-ten finish in the Rolex Final in March 2026 has transformed into a world championship start in August. 

Dressage Gómez Molina Places Five Times in Austria

While the American summer is quiet, Europe’s calendar certainly isn’t. Last week, at a CDI in Achleiten, Austria, Spain’s Pablo Gómez Molina had a strong weekend on all four of his horses, including one he’s ridden in the US Equestrian Open of Dressage.

Servus Ymas finished second on 73.845% in the Grand Prix Freestyle, only the second career FEI freestyle for the horse. The first, back in February, was a win at the Equestrian Open qualifier in Wellington. Baltasar de Ymas, another of Gómez Molina’s up-and-comers, took third in the Grand Prix Special, also only the horse’s second at the level.

Gómez Molina rounded out the weekend in the Small Tour aboard Virtual Story Ymas, finishing third in the Prix St. Georges and second in the Intermediate 1, and in the six-year-old test aboard Valentin Ymas, where they took third.

Gómez Molina sits 20th in the Series standings, outside the positions that earn an automatic invitation to the Final at Desert International Horse Park. With just two qualifiers completed, he has room to improve his leaderboard position and make the cut.
