Eventing Martin Takes the Advanced Championship

Boyd Martin & Shanroe Cooley won the $60,000 Adequan Advanced Final at the USEA American Eventing Championships at the Kentucky Horse Park on Friday, They sat third after dressage on 31.3, added 8.8 cross country time faults, and dropped a single second in Rolex Stadium for 0.4.

Clear rounds were hard to come by. Only two of the 18 starters jumped double clear, and one of them belonged to Mary Bess Davis & Imperio Magic, who moved from fourth to second, while Elisa Wallace & Lissavorra Quality produced the other. Maya Clarkson & Maks Mojo C took third after two rails.

The AEC is not a Series qualifier, but it does give us a glimpse into who is out competing and on form. Five qualifiers remain before the Final at Morven Park, starting with The Fork at Tryon on September 10 and closing at Woodside Fall International on October 2.

Jumping Greya Wins Again in the Hamptons

Kent Farrington & Greya won the CSI5* Longines Hampton Classic Grand Prix over 1.60m. Only two horses in the class went clear, both of them cleared the jump-off as well. With Farrington drawn first, he set a time that McLain Ward (Lestro VD Valckenborg) could not match. It is the twelfth time the mare has won a 5*/major 1.60m class. Her Elo sits at 782, the fifth highest-rated horse in the world.

Another familiar face from the Wellington circuit was busy in Belgium. Richard Vogel & Gangster Montdesir won the CSI5* Rolex Grand Prix of Brussels, one of only two double clears from the 12 who came back, making Gangster the second horse after Explosion W to win three 5* Grands Prix in a single year. He is 10 years old and his Elo is already 738.

Dressage The Horses Jackson and Osborne Are Building For The Series

Cyndi Jackson & Online H finished second in the FEI 7-Year-Old Final Test at the U.S. Dressage Festival of Champions on Sunday, scoring 77.700% at HITS Lamplight Equestrian Center in Wayne, Illinois. They had been fourth in the Preliminary Test two days before on 73.554%. Charlotte Osborne & Ouzhou were ninth in the Final Test on 71.343%, an improvement on their 69.661% in the Preliminary.

Neither result moves the Series standings. Jackson is 11th on 39 points and Osborne 12th on 37, and their Series campaigns are being run at Grand Prix with Florisson and Fruhlingszauber. Online H and Ouzhou are years away from that arena.

The young horse divisions are worth watching for what they turn into. Lottie Fry & Glamourdale won the equivalent 7-Year-Old title at the 2018 World Young Horse Championships. Four years later they were Grand Prix World Champions in Herning, and this August they won the title again in Aachen.

September starts the run-in. Two qualifiers remain, Devon on the 22nd and Terranova on October 15, before the Final at Thermal in November.
